EFS – Ethical Fashion Show 2007, Paris

Ecological Couture

They take place following the big Paris fashion shows and still stand somewhat in their shadow, but have everything other than a Cinderella image. The Ethical Fashion Show, held for the fourth time from October 11-14, 2007, attracted a good 1,500 visitors on open-house day in ‘Tapis Rouge’ the alternative-trendy fashion location in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.

One hundred labels from all over the world that participated in the EFS 2007 demonstrated that ecological and social responsibility combined with fashion are not only possible, but can also be a stimulating source of inspiration and attraction. The collections of the young designers were creative and original, multicultural like the nationalities of their creators.

Paris, c'est toujours Paris: the diverse, fashionable couture details were definitely attributable to the influence of the city of fashion. Trendy street wear styles were just as popular and frequently seen; all this was combined with good local handicraft and ecological awareness. The EFS was a stepping stone for many new talented designers whose names we shall soon be seeing in the stores.

The EFS Eco Prix (prize) for the “most ethical” collection went to ‘Nanduti’, a French-Argentinean- Paraguayan collaboration. The label ‘Ethos’ won a contract with the department/mail-order store chain La Redoute; prizes were also awarded to ‘Ombre Claire’ (accessories) and ‘Moyi Ekolo’ shoes. “Gorgeous green” Summer Rayne Oakes, environmental activist and ecomodel/testimonial for ecological projects was the special guest and sponsor of the EFS event in Paris this year.
